Making waves in the media in 2016, Dr. Tasnim Jara stood out from the conventional binds of Bangladeshi wedding practices. While heavy jewelry adorns most brides along with serious makeup, Dr. Jara opted for the statement of wearing very few ornaments and no makeup at all during her marriage. She flaunted her grandmother’s prized sari, a true family heirloom that reflected the tradition one attached to something while completely turning back to material excess.

Not only was her marriage to Khaled Saifullah an expression of love but also served as a declaration for society: accept yourself, not necessarily blend in with societal pressure cast onto women to conform to unrealistic standards of beauty. • Shohay Health: Empowering Lives Through Digital Healthcare

In September 2020, Dr. Jara co-founded Shohay Health, the digital health organization that aims to make healthcare more accessible and thousands of people’s healthier lives closer. She serves as Co-Founder, Chair, and Chief Medical Officer of Shohay Health, where she defines the approach towards innovative health solutions mainly for marginalized populations.

Shohay Health addresses major healthcare challenges that face Bangladesh by providing telemedicine, health education, and preventive care services. This platform primarily focuses on maternal and child health, chronic disease management, and mental health services.

• Contributions to Medical Education

Dr. Jara’s passion involves several positions that she holds at the University of Cambridge. She has been appointed as Clinical Supervisor (Undergraduate) since 2021 to mentor future doctors and oversee their clinical training. Currently, alongside being a Senior Clinical Supervisor, she is also a member of the Clinical Education Quality Committee. (2023-2024); in fact, she has been a key player in maintaining the quality of undergraduate medical education.

In addition to being a specialty doctor in internal medicine at the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. (2024), Dr. Jara has direct interactions with patients. She runs a complex medical case entirely independently, oversees junior doctors, and manages critical care teams in emergency situations.

She has acquired competency in acute management of conditions, including peri-arrest situations, acute coronary syndromes, and respiratory acumen failure. Because of this, she has ensured patient safety during high stress conditions such as those found in overflows within emergency departments.

• Leadership Roles in Public Health

To bring the matter to the eyes of the world, Dr. Jara also works in the field of public health policy and research. She is an Institutional Review Board Member for the SAJIDA Foundation and is also a member of the Advisory Steering Committee for the BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health.
